Central Secretary of Formation
November 30th, 1999 by Sr Pamela
Our document on formation says this about the Central Secretary:
“A Central Secretary for Formation is elected by the joint Central Commissions. The Central Secretary’s function is to facilitate communication between the Regions and to ensure the dissemination of relevant information about all aspects of monastic formation. He or she may make recommendations to the Central Commissions about items concerning formation to be placed on the agenda of the General Chapters, and may be invited by the Abbot General to attend the meetings of the Central Commissions, and by the Central Commissions to attend the General Chapters.”
During my first year in this position I have traveled to Germany, France and Japan meeting with Regional Secretaries of Formation and community Formators. I asked how I could serve them and I received several suggestions. This website is a response to some of the suggestions and the Studium under development is a response to others suggestions.
I look forward to meeting more Regional Secretaries and Formators in the comeing year.

Dear Sr.Pamela,
I saw your site on cistercian-formation ‘by accident’. A link was mentioned in the minutes of the Iles-Region. I didn’t know about it. Receive my congratulations. it is a good idea and I hope it will work. I asked sr.Katharina of Brecht, our regional secretary for formation, to let it know to the houses of our region.
I am very happy with the courses on the internet. It is very helpfull.
Because of the Regional Meeting of the RAFMA Dom Dominic, the superior of Victoria-Kenia, is here at the moment. The formation is a very big problem in the community. They really need help. Is there a list of english speaking people, monks and nuns, who are avaible to give some courses to them? Are there videos avaible with courses or conferences on it. Because they are very isolated, the only English speaking monastery for monks in whole East-Africa, it is really a problem for them. Also the don’t have the finances to do much. Maybe you can think about it and hopefully you have some suggestions.
Thank you again for your work and the website.
Receive my greetings and prayers on the way to Easter!

Dear Fr Bernardus,
Thank you for your comments. I am sorry the site seems so hidden. I did send emails to the Regional Presidents and Regional Secretaries–and believed the emails I arrived. I did not ask that they publish the news. I will ask that the site be posted on the Order’s website.
I do have an outdated list of English speaking monks and nuns. I will revise it and forward it to you.
The best site for videos that I know of is The Teaching Company (http://www.teach12.com). The prices seem high; however each year every title goes on sale. We have used the tapes and cds. Tarrawarra is using the videos.
How to fund the purchase? One source of funding is the Koch Foundation in Florida
